MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will not intervene in the suspension of reelectionist Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, believing that the rule of law shall prevail, the Palace said Friday.
Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro announced it after Garcia was slapped with a six-month preventive suspension to pave the way for an investigation into the permit she granted to a construction firm that had no environmental clearance.
Garcia has refused to step down from her post.

Asked if the President will intervene, Castro said: “Hindi gagawin ng Pangulo ‘yan.” (The President will not do that.)
According to Castro, Marcos remains insistent that the rule of law must be upheld and that due process must be strengthened.
He also maintains that there should be no abuse of any form of power, regardless of who they are.
“So we will follow what the law says and adhere to the proper procedures that must be carried out,” Castro said.
“Perhaps Governor Gwen Garcia can avail of this, and if it is in accordance with the law, then it must be fulfilled,” she added.
The Ombudsman suspended Garcia just days before the 2025 elections.
