SAN ANTONIO, Zambales – President Marcos Jr. served as the guest of honor and keynote speaker at the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy’s (PMMA) commencement exercises for the “Kadaligtan” Class of 2025 on Friday.

The ceremony, themed around service and commitment to maritime excellence, recognized the achievements of 252 graduating midshipmen from the Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation and Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering programs.

Marcos led the awarding of diplomas and conferred honors on the graduates, who were also commissioned as ensigns in the Philippine Navy Reserve Force.

Among the notable attendees were Special Assistant to the President Antonio Ernesto F. Lagdameo, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, Commission on Higher Education Commissioner Desiderio R. Apag III, and Philippine Coast Guard Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan.

Midshipman First Class Marc John Castañeto, 22, the class valedictorian, received the Presidential Saber and the Chairman of the Board Award for his outstanding academic performance and leadership qualities.

Of the 252 graduates, 15 joined the Philippine Navy, 13 entered the Philippine Coast Guard, and 224 embarked on careers as merchant marine officers.
