MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) preventively suspended the driver’s license of a motorcycle rider caught performing dangerous stunts on a public road.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II said the rider’s license was suspended for 90 days after a show cause order (SCO) was issued to both the rider and the motorcycle’s registered owner.

The SCO was issued after a video went viral online showing the rider standing on a big motorcycle and even dancing without holding the handlebars.

No matter which angle you look at it, what this rider did was really dangerous, especially since he did it on a public road that could cause an accident and endanger the lives of road users,” said Mendoza in a recent statement.

Under the SCO, the registered owner — a woman based in Manila — was ordered to explain in writing why she should not be penalized for the incident and to help the LTO identify the rider for appropriate action.

It also informed the registered owner that the big bike is now placed under alarm “to compel your appearance at this Office and prevent any and all transactions while under investigation.”

“Failure to appear and submit the written comment/explanation as required shall be construed by this Office as a waiver of your rights to be heard, and the case shall be decided based on the evidence at hand,” the order stated.

Mendoza then said that the still unidentified rider is now facing cases of reckless driving and being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.— with reports from Verleen Dasigan, INQUIRER.net trainee/das
