The appeal of former President Rodrigo Duterte’s defense team to have him released before the International Criminal Court (ICC) is part of due process, said a Palace official Friday.

Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro made the pronouncement after Duterte’s legal team had made an appeal before the ICC to release the former president, challenging the jurisdiction of the ICC.

Online trolls attacking the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) grew “tenfold” after the government became “transparent” on tensions in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) under the Marcos administration.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) said on Friday that it is temporarily halting its P20 per kilo rice program until May 13 or after the national and local elections on May 12.

DA spokesperson Arnel de Mesa announced it after Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chair George Garcia suggested the same, following the program rollout on May 1.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will be on “full alert” starting Saturday, May 3, less than 10 days before the 2025 national and local elections.

This was according to PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil in a Friday chance interview with reporters at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
