Here’s a quick roundup of today’s top stories:
Instead of appointing a lead investigator, Malacañang on Thursday urged Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong to reveal all his information regarding anomalous flood-control projects directly to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
This suggestion came after Magalong volunteered to lead the investigation into dubious infrastructure projects that leave several parts of the country submerged in floodwaters during the rainy season.
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has issued an ultimatum, ordering all e-wallets to unlink their platforms to online gambling sites within 48 hours, but senators are not pleased with the two-day period, demanding that it be done now.
BSP Deputy Governor Mamerto Tangonan disclosed the matter before the Senate committee on games and amusement’s hearing on Thursday, saying that they issued the order just this Thursday.
Government contractors are prohibited from donating to candidates for public office, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Thursday.
Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia clarified the rule when asked whether a contractor may donate if it bagged a government project only after the candidate had won the elections.
The Patidongan brothers on Thursday filed an administrative complaint against former Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Chief Police Brigadier Gen. Romeo Macapaz before the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) in Quezon City.
E-sabong whistleblower Julie “Dondon” Patidongan and his brother Elakim Patidongan on Thursday formally filed their complaint of misconduct, dishonesty and conduct unbecoming of a police officer before the Napolcom in connection with the case of the disappearance of 34 cockfighting enthusiasts (sabungeros) between 2021 and 2022.
Mamamayang Liberal (ML) party list Rep. Leila de Lima has asked the Department of Justice to conduct a formal investigation of government prosecutors who handled the drug cases against her, accusing them of “grave misconduct and gross ignorance of the law.”
In a formal complaint submitted to Justice Sec. Jesus Crispin Remulla on Thursday, de Lima cited the “abuse and injustice” she endured over the past seven years at the hands of these prosecutors, who, she said, pursued the “politically motivated” and “fabricated” cases against her.
