MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, is forecast to continue bringing rain to most parts of the country, including Metro Manila, on Friday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Based on Pagasa’s morning update, weather specialist Loriedin De La Cruz-Galicia said the following areas in Luzon are expected to experience cloudy skies with a high chance of rain due to the habagat:

“In the areas mentioned, we continue to remind our countrymen that wherever they need to go today, they should not forget to bring rain protection and remain alert to the possibility of flooding,” De La Cruz-Galicia said in Filipino.

Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with a chance of thunderstorms at any time of the day due to localized thunderstorms.

De La Cruz-Galicia also noted that the whole Visayas is forecast to have cloudy skies with a high chance of rain brought by the habagat.

As for Mindanao, the following areas are also expected to experience cloudy skies with a high chance of rain this Friday due to the southwest monsoon:

The rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with a high chance of localized thunderstorms, also due to the habagat.

No tropical cyclone or low-pressure area is being monitored inside or outside the Philippine area of responsibility at this time, De La Cruz-Galicia said. /jpv
