A search and rescue operation is under way for a fisherman missing at Lough Corrib in the Galway/Mayo area.

The operation was launched after the Coast Guard received an emergency call at midnight last night.

The man was the only person on board the "small boat", the Coast Guard said.

Several coastguard units, including helicopters Rescue 115 and Rescue 118 were deployed to the scene near Lough Corrib.

The search operation remains ongoing, the Coast Guard said.
