The CEO of Apple has said the cost of US trade tariffs, which particularly affect imports from the company's iPhone manufacturing hub in China, could reach $900 million.
During an earnings call, Tim Cook told analysts that if nothing changes from current policy for the rest of this quarter, "we estimate the impact to add $900 million to our costs," noting that it was impossible to predict the tariffs' precise amount.
The CEO also said he expected a "majority of iPhones sold in the US will have India as their country of origin," adding that Apple's products were for now exempt from Trump's most painful reciprocal tariffs.
He said Vietnam would be the country of origin for almost all iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and AirPod products sold in the US and that China will continue to be where most Apple products are made for sale outside the US.
